The cast for Crimson Peak has been shaping up quite nicely, between Emma Stone, Charlie Hunnam, Benedict Cumberbatch and – most recently – Jessica Chastain having closed a deal to appear in the film. Unfortunately, Stone had to leave the project due to a scheduling conflict with another movie on her long to-do list; that includes the new rom-com from Cameron Crowe – formerly known as Deep Tiki – and Woody Allen’s currently-untitled next project, which he will shoot in France (with Stone co-starring opposite Colin Firth).

Stone most recently appeared on the big screen in “Gangster Squad” and lent her voice to DreamWorks hit animated film “The Croods.” Next summer she will reprise her role as Gwen Stacy in the second installment of “The Amazing Spider-Man.”

Cabaret is based on a book written by Christopher Isherwood, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The 1966 Broadway production became a hit and spawned a 1972 film starring Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey. It was revived on Broadway in both 1987 and 1998.

Emma has signed on to play in a dark comedy entitled Birdman. Her co-stars include Naomi Watts, Zach Galifiankis and Michael Keaton. Emma will play Michael’s daughter who is just out of rehab and will be his assistant. Shooting for the film begins in early April.

Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple
The lip butter is the first thing that my face was ever “attached” to and I really love it. I wear it pretty often. It’s kind of like a chapstick, but it has some color in it, so it’s easy to wear all the time.

Blue Nights by Joan Didion
If you’re a Joan Didion fan and have read The Year of Magical Thinking then you need to read her new book because its about Quintana dying. It’s pretty awful, but it’s so beautiful.

The Banjo Ukulele
Somebody got me a banjo-ukulele and I just started fooling around on it. It’s been pretty great. I’ve never played an instrument before in my life, except for the flute in fourth grade, but it’s small enough for my hands so I’ve been screwing around with it and I learned “What a Wonderful World” which is really fun on a ukulele. You can get the tabs online—it’s pretty easy.

Les Miserables
Yah! I just saw a screening of Les Mis—oh my god—it is mind-blowing. It’s so good that it’s kind of stupid. It was the first musical that I ever saw when I was eight or nine, so I always had a connection to it. The movie holds up like you can’t believe. It’s amazing.

Daniel Vosovic
I love his stuff. I’ve worn his clothing three or four times in a row. It’s so comfortable, cute, simple, and clean, but always with something fun. Like this dress I’m wearing right now is open in the back, which is so cool. My stylist, Petra Flannery, is behind anything that I wear—it’s a collaboration, but she’s the brains behind the operation. I have gotten more into fashion now that I’ve been more exposed to it throughout the years.

Johnny Rockets
I’m a sucker for Johnny Rockets. I could go to Johnny Rockets and get grilled cheese with cheddar on white bread and french fries and vanilla-peanut butter malt. I love cheddar cheese—not American cheese, which tastes like a credit card. I use extra-sharp cheddar and then my secret is to put put some garlic salt on one side when you’re making it and then I butter on both sides to really do it up.

Madewell and Lanvin Flats
Flat shoes. Of course. I find it so crazy that so many women wear heels all day. I wear these Madewell flats all the time. I’m trying to wear other shoes more often, but they’re my favorite. And I have a pair of those Lanvin ballet shoes—the ones that curl up—I’ve had them for five years and I still wear them all the time.

Serial Killers
I can tell you pretty much anything about Charles Manson and Jeffrey Dahmer. I’m fascinated to see how [someone becomes a serial killer] that happens and whether or not you can trace it back to a moment in their childhood. I find the psychology behind it interesting. Something can be so traumatizing to one child, but the same thing could happen to another child and he’ll turn out completely fine. What causes someone to want to do that? It’s so scary for parents because every moment is a chance that they need to be like, “I better handle this one well.”

On that note…we’re excited to see Emma Stone’s Revlon ads all over the city. And seriously Emma, if you get bored or whatever, I’m game to eat grilled cheese and profile serial killers with you.

TGIBD: I know that you put together a PowerPoint presentation for your parents to get them to let you start acting. I’m wondering if it was as hard to get them to let you wear makeup for the first time?
Emma: It wasn’t as hard—although that wasn’t that hard either because they were pretty great about it. I did a lot of youth theater so I had to do my own makeup before the show so I was like “Aw, hell yeah!” I was just all about makeup, makeup, makeup for the shows. So I would wear that home and out stuff so I was really into makeup and then they were kind of like, Oh OK. I mean, it wasn’t as heavy as my Eeyor makeup.

TGIBD: Do you do your makeup still now? Is that something you enjoy doing?
Emma: I do! I really like to do it. But now, unfortunately, I know I can’t do it as well as the professionals so I’m always a little bit disappointed by my own hand. But I’ve always really enjoyed makeup, yeah.

TGIBD: What are some of your must-haves right now?
Emma: On the Revlon-front, I really love the Lip Butter and the Nearly Naked Foundation [Ed note: It's new—watch for it!]. And then in general, I really like highlighters and anything that looks kind of shimmery because I can’t used powders because I’m so dry. So I like the J Lo Glo. I’m super-into the J Lo Glow.

TGIBD: And how to you apply highlighter?
Emma: I kind of just mix it with my foundation.

TGIBD: You were saying that your skin is dry, what is your skincare regimen?
Emma: It changes all the time. I’m super-promiscuous. It depends. The thing I like the most is just straight oils—olive oil, argon oil, grape seed oil, coconut oil—but unfortunately, a lot of that stuff is too heavy to wear all over your face all the time, which I’m learning slowly but surely. So I’ve been using Cetaphil and a lot of Ulta lotions and a lot of SPF.

TGIBD: How about for your hair?
Emma: I don’t really have a hair “thing.” I try to get trims every once and a while when I remember but I usually don’t remember for, like, 6 months. I’m not great about my hair. And I have, like, feathers where hair should be! It’s really really fine. My hair is a battle. It’s an uphill, fine, baby-haired battle. It’s bone-straight and I have some pieces that my hairstylist stuck in my hair right now because if she didn’t you could see my hair through my ears right now. I mean, not to brag. There’s not much going on there.

TGIBD: If you’re going out for a night and you’re doing your own makeup, what’s your go-to look?
Emma: Eyeliner and a little bit more shadow. I don’t think I’d do something on my lips because I eat lipstick, so I don’t think it would be a good call. That’s pretty much the extent of my expertise.

TGIBD: Do you have an eyeliner you love?
Emma: Whatever’s around. I have a checkered past. I’ll take any eyeliner that comes my way.

TGIBD: If you had to look and think Well, that was a failure, have you tried anything beauty-wise you just think I’m never doing that again?
Emma: [Doesn’t even skip a beat] Yeah, when I was 16 there was this really awesome phase I went through where I wore bedazzled belts and tank tops with bolero jackets, and I was super-spray-tanned. I wore a ton of bronzer and raccoon eyes and [pause for effect] acrylic nails.

TGIBD: Acrylic nails?
Emma: Welcome to my life when I was like 15 and 16. I really kept them up for like a solid 6 months to maybe a year. Then for my new movie Gangster Squad, it’s set in 1949, so I had to get these rounded acrylic red nails that were like talons, and it brought back awful memories. And then my nails were messed up for another 6 months!

TGIBD: And you have dry skin so you probably also get dry nails?
Emma: I have weak nails, weak hair, weak skin and a weak bicep. What can I say?

“She came in and she was like a shot of espresso,” says Andrew. “She’s incredibly energetic and enthusiastic and she had this sense of play and fun which was incredibly exciting.”

Director Marc Webb, whose previous big-screen foray was the romantic (500) Days of Summer, explains, “When we tested them, there was fireworks. She could take on Andrew’s improvisation and witticisms and one-up him. I mean, it was amazing to see them go back and forth. … It became an obvious combination, because that’s what people are there for.”

And Emma adds, “Marc Webb’s biggest goal has been working out that relationship, and making sure it feels authentic, and he kind of brings it all back down to earth, even though we’re operating in a superhero universe. It’s certainly important to Andrew and I that this relationship would exist in a world of no superheroes.”

The Amazing Spider-Man Blu-ray, featuring a very cool second-screen app with multiple interactive features, is out Friday.

The awards show was created by Mariah Carey’s hubby and Dem Babies daddy Nick Cannon. He will host the event, which takes place at the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday, November 17.

Buried in THR’s report yesterday about the “Divergent” casting of Shailene Woodley — who as you recall is now set to play Mary Jane Watson — the trade revealed that the actress’ role is “only a very small part in ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ but blossoms into an integral lead for the planned third movie as the studio seeks to build to the classic ‘Death of Gwen Stacy’ story.” Pretty ballsy stuff when you consider the first picture seemed to be a battle between reinvention or delivering the narrative comic fans are familiar with.

In the original comics, Green Goblin (is he coming back as a villain then?) throws Gwen off the Brooklyn Bridge, and Spidey uses his web to catch her. But the whiplash snaps her neck and kills her, leaving Spidey devastated. Enter Mary Jane, who helps Peter Parker grieve and in turn becomes his new flame. Heavy stuff, but an undeniably potent storyline.
